Making our Hemet-San Jacinto communities clean, green and safe takes effort. Our city governments can start some initiatives like providing recycling bins to residents, which cost money, especially if residents don’t use the service. In addition, our city governments will also need help from citizens like you to identify areas where we need to be green. This is where the Green Coalition of San Jacinto Valley comes in.
You can help make our community green or sustainable by joining the Green Coalition. There are many projects that the organization pursues towards its goal of making the San Jacinto Valley clean, green and safe. For instance, petitioning the cities to install more bikes lanes, walkable sidewalks or amending ordinances that will make greywater recycling legal in both cities. This may mean gathering signatures, appearing in council meetings or writing articles for local newspapers.
You can also help your community by being vigilant. Report abandoned shopping carts either to cities or store owners who own the carts. Encourage neighbors to call the cities to pick up bulky items and not leave them on sidewalks arbitrarily. Use cloth bags when shopping. Green Coalition members are issued clothbags upon signing for membership.
We are also reaching out to businesses like hotels, gyms and restaurants to see where we can help them identify areas to conserve water. For example, Green Coalition is developing funds to create card tents to place in hotel rooms reminding guests to conserve water by forgoing changing of bed sheets or towels.
Another way of helping is by making a donation to the Green Coalition to help our efforts as described in the sustainable community action plan. Your donation is tax deductible since the Green Coalition is a 501c(3) non profit.
Make your check payable to the Green Coalition of the San Jacinto Valley and send it to 140 E. Stetson Ave. #254 Hemet, CA or call (951) 929-0854.
