The Green Coalition of the San Jacinto Valley (Green Coalition) is a California non-profit grass roots citizen group based in the San Jacinto Valley, California. Established in August 2008, the organization’s mission is to create a sustainable community for the San Jacinto Valley. A sustainable community is a community of residents and neighbors, who work together to balance ecological, economic, and social needs to ensure a clean, healthy and safe environment for all members of society and for generations to come. Letter to the Hemet General Plan Action Committee (G-PAC)

In 2009, the City of Hemet organized a citizens committee to assist in the upgrade of the city’s general plan. The last amendment made to the general plan was in 1992.

What is a general plan?

A city’s general plan is one of the most important documents of the city. It is the city’s constitution. Every city has a general plan. This plan guides planners, developers, builders and leaders on the growth and land development of communities, for both the current period and the long term.

The General Plan is the foundation for establishing goals, purposes, zoning and activities allowed on each land parcel to provide compatibility and continuity to the entire region as well as each individual neighborhood- Wikepedia, 2009

Without an updated general plan, builders, planners and leaders will have to rely on the last general plan which was updated in 1992.

How can you help make our community become sustainable?

Making our Hemet-San Jacinto communities clean, green and safe takes effort. Our city governments can start some initiatives like providing recycling bins to residents, which cost money, especially if residents don’t use the service. In addition, our city governments will also need help from citizens like you to identify areas where we need to be green. This is where the Green Coalition of San Jacinto Valley comes in.
